Earth Maps

In collaboration with Google Earth Pro, I see it as my task to map every country in the world separately. There are more than 200 of them, which means a lot of work. All cards have no top or bottom and are rotatable. They were created by using Ptolemy's cross rule.

I hope you enjoy watching.

South-Holland

Rotterdam along the Maas

Rotterdam's day watch is based on the life of Albert de Booij, who died far too early on June 14, 2022. The satin canvas is 550 centimeters long and 110 centimeters wide. It is a good thing that the Germans did not have this flawless map at their disposal in 1940. This phenomenal portrait of Rotterdam defies the possibilities of printing and computer editing. The portrayal can only be done by using Ptolemy's cross ruler.

Printer Show1

It took approximately 5 hours to print this work on a 110x550 cm canvas, specifically on Innova Satin Canvas. This striking work of art shows 'Rotterdam Harbor in View' and is a masterpiece of patience and precision, in which the majestic harbor of Rotterdam comes to life in a large-scale and impressive way.

Groningen in Focus

Groningen City

In 1983 I was called up for military service, in class 83-1. In 1982 it was decided that I had to leave Texel and go to the city of Groningen, without me knowing about it. After all, who would want to leave Texel? In exchange for Texel I got Groningen. In September 1982 I left Texel for the Noorderhaven in the center of the city, where we lived on a ship. From that moment on the winter depressions began.

In 1983 I entered the service and learned my conscience. Groningen also meant a lot of heavy metal music and homesickness for me.

Veendam County

Hidden in the Groningen peat colonies is the capital of the world map, Veendam, where Maroga's creative brain is located. My wish is the establishment of the Maroga Academy for Modern Science. We'll see if I ever get the chance to realize this. Veendam has many vacancies and is ideal for housing scientific art.

From Echten to Hoogeveen to Schoonhoven. The region still has untouched and unique heathland, the Echten Bos. In the 16th century, Hoogeveen, or Hoog-Veen, started peat mining. Over the centuries it has formed a true industry in milk, vegetables, production and development.

ISLANDS

900.000+

In the world.

Maroga began mapping the Wadden Islands:

Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland, and Schiermonnikoog.

It takes approximately 8 hours of work to create one square meter of a map.

These large maps capture a unique moment in time.

Vlieland

Vlieland, the smallest inhabited Wadden Island in the Netherlands, is known for its unspoilt nature, extensive dunes and quiet beaches. But the island also has a fascinating history dating back to the 9th century.

Terschelling Print Canvas

Ameland

The history of Ameland goes back to the early Middle Ages. The island was originally divided into four villages: Hollum, Ballum, Nes and Buren. These villages were founded by settlers who settled on the island. Over the centuries, Ameland played a role in shipping and trade, comparable to other Wadden Islands.

A notable feature of Ameland is the lighthouse called "Bornrif," which stands on the west side of the island. Built in the 19th century, this lighthouse is still operational and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Schiermonnikoog Print Canvas

Texel

Old maps show "Tessel" as the first island of the Frissi Islands. After the Second World War this was changed to the Wadden Islands. In this way, every trace of the Frissi is slowly erased. To be continued..."

Vlieland Print Canvas

Terschelling

In the Middle Ages, Terschelling played an important role in international shipping. The island was a prosperous trading post and a base for merchant ships sailing between Europe and Scandinavia. It was also involved in whaling, like Vlieland, and is home to the Wreck Museum that bears witness to this maritime history.

Schiermonnikoog

Schiermonnikoog also has a rich history of shipwrecks and beachcombing, which continues to add to the island's mystique to this day. The beach is a great place to walk and look for washed-up treasures.

The large print of Schiermonnikoog made with Google Earth offers a beautiful overview of the island and its diverse landscapes. It invites you to explore the natural beauty and history of Schiermonnikoog.

Pohnpei

Nan Madol

Somewhere far out in the great ocean in Micronesia, lies the island of Pohn-pei.

On that island of 30x30 kilometers is the mysterious island of Nan Madol. Built with huge stones, without explanation.

Reason enough for Maroga to map the entire island from thousands of meters above sea level.

And we succeeded!

Venice

See Venice and then die…

Maroga is on her way to Venice to participate in an international art exhibition in 2024.

Hence this unique rotatable portrait from space and with the collaboration of Google Earth Pro.

The map measures 110cm x 110cm and can be enlarged to 440cm x 440cm, without pixelisation, ideal for airports and port arrivals.

Rome and the Vatican from Space

Rome is an impressive sight from space. Hidden within this beautiful Italian city is the smallest country in the world: the Vatican, which covers just 0.44 km2. But how are these detailed maps actually made?

I have had the pleasure of designing a special tool that I have called the "Google Earth map maker". By connecting a thousand images together like a kind of patchwork, one square meter of map is created. It takes approximately eight hours of work to complete these accurate land portraits.

In addition, I am proud to announce that maroga.nl now offers a free online atlas. It is my hope that people everywhere, especially those less fortunate, can enjoy for free the most accurate maps of our planet available today. You can help me by forwarding maroga.nl to countries with limited resources.

Rome is famously known as the center to which all roads lead, but it's important to realize that all roads actually emanated from Rome. The Roman legions relied on wagon wheels, which could only function on well-constructed roads. Consequently, the roads were built first before the army could advance upon them.

Through this message, I hope to obtain permission to enter the Vatican Library with the purpose of scanning and digitally restoring old rare maps. Old maps often suffer from paper rot and discoloration. My method improves the quality of the maps, and the printing process ensures that the new maps will last another 400 years, just like their predecessors.

Monaco from Space

This is the first map in the history of Maroga Studio. The map is flawless and contains no pixels, and the scale is identical every centimeter. The country of Monaco has a pirate history and also appears on old maps of Friesland, where it was depicted as a collection of islands. I consider this print the pinnacle of my maps.

Gibraltar

This is the third smallest country in the world, also known as "the Rock". The images on the website may look unclear due to an upload problem. However, the portraits themselves are of impeccable quality and free of pixels. Thanks to Google Earth Mapmaker they are flawless.

Every square inch of the canvas has been carefully and proportionally proportioned, thanks to the use of Google Earth Mapmaker. I am currently looking for investors for my free online atlas. Moreover, I am looking for a spacious location to establish my World Map Museum, which will also highlight the unknown history of the world map.
